Jewelry Photographer
New York
Frank Castillo is an image maker and director. His subjects include the Williamson Pink Star, the 11.15-carat Fancy Vivid Pink diamond that set the world record for price-per-carat at auction at $57.7 million, and his photography is published in Taschen's Ultimate Collector's Watches.
His jewelry images run as advertising for the houses he shoots for, in titles including Vogue, Architectural Digest and Robb Report, and since 2023 his timepiece work has filled a Fifth Avenue flagship in large-format print and window vitrine.
The Work
-
STILLS
Diamonds, gemstones and precious metal photographed for campaign rather than catalogue. Stones are lit for the way they actually behave, which means controlling refraction and the color that comes back out of them, not flattening everything into sparkle. Retouching preserves the cut.

-
MOTION
Moving image for jewelry houses, directed alongside the stills. Macro video that holds focus across a stone, campaign films, and social cutdowns that carry the same grade as the printed frames.

-
ON-FIGURE
Jewelry photographed on the body as part of the same commission. Neck, hand and ear shot to match the still life, so a campaign reads as one piece of work rather than a set of separate deliveries.

Stills, motion and on-figure under one creative direction, concept through final frame.
