Jewelry Photographer
Los Angeles
Frank Castillo is an image maker and director. His jewelry images run as advertising for the houses he shoots for, in titles including Vogue, Architectural Digest and Robb Report, and at scale on storefront and outdoor. His subjects include the Williamson Pink Star, the 11.15-carat Fancy Vivid Pink diamond that set the world record for price-per-carat at auction.
He works from South Florida for houses and agencies across the United States, Europe and Latin America, Los Angeles included. Pieces of this value travel insured and photographed under controlled conditions, which is a question of handling and lighting rather than of postcode.
The Work
-
STILLS
Campaign and macro photography for fine jewelry. The difficulty in this work is that stones and polished metal reflect the entire room, so every frame is built by controlling what surrounds the piece. Color is held true to the stone rather than pushed.

-
MOTION
Macro video and campaign films directed as part of the same commission as the stills, sharing the same lighting and grade. Motion that a house can run beside its print work without the two looking unrelated.

-
ON-FIGURE
Jewelry on the body, cast, styled and directed alongside the still life. The on-figure frames and the product frames come from one shoot and one creative direction.

Stills, motion and on-figure under one creative direction, concept through final frame.
